SwimWorld Glen Waverley at a Glance
SwimWorld Glen Waverley is one of the longest-established swimming schools in Melbourne's eastern suburbs. For more than fifty years it has taught swimming to families across the City of Monash, including Glen Waverley, Mount Waverley, Wheelers Hill and Mulgrave. Over that time it has taught tens of thousands of swimmers, and in many local families it has now taught two and three generations of the same family.
The school runs structured small-group lessons for every stage of life, from babies as young as four months through to adults learning for the first time. Classes are capped at a maximum of six students for developing swim levels, the indoor pool is heated to 32 degrees all year round, and lessons run seven days a week.

Fifty Years in the Same Community
Very few swimming schools in Melbourne can point to a half-century of swim teaching in the one community.
For more than fifty years, SwimWorld has been teaching children in Glen Waverley and the surrounding suburbs to swim, survive and survive the water. The parents bringing their babies to our Tiny Tots classes today were often taught to swim here themselves. Some of our longest-standing local families are now on their third generation of swimmers.
That kind of longevity is not an accident, and it is not something a newer school can easily manufacture. It is the result of decades of doing the same things well: teaching in small groups, keeping the water warm, holding onto good instructors, and treating every family as one we expect to know for years rather than weeks. Over the years, many of our students have become part of our team.
Small Classes:
A Maximum of Six
SwimWorld caps every children’s class at a maximum of six students until students reach squad/adult swim levels. This is one of the smaller class sizes among swimming schools in the Glen Waverley and wider Monash area, and it is a deliberate decision rather than a constraint.
Class size is not a comfort preference. It is a learning variable. A 2023 systematic review published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health found that the developmental benefits of aquatic activity in young children, including gains in motor skills and cognitive flexibility, are closely tied to the quality of instruction. Quality of instruction is directly limited by how many children one instructor is managing at once.
With a maximum of six in the water, each child is seen, corrected and encouraged individually within every lesson. The instructor knows where each swimmer is in their progression and what they are working on. In larger classes, that individual attention is mathematically impossible.
Swimming Programmes for Every Stage
SwimWorld offers a complete progression pathway, from a baby's very first experience of water through to competitive squad training and adult lessons. Every programme is structured, with defined skill levels and continuous progress tracking.
Baby Swimming (Tiny Tots): from 4 months
Our Tiny Tots programme welcomes babies from four months of age, and parents are in the water with their child for every session. This is the programme we are most often asked about, and for good reason.
For parents thinking about the long term, baby swimming is one of the earliest structured developmental activities available, and the benefits compound across the years that follow. A child who starts at four months and continues consistently builds a foundation that is very difficult to replicate later.
Little Squirts: pre-school
For pre-school aged children, Little Squirts develops water confidence, breath control, floating and the first mechanics of independent movement. Small groups mean children also learn to take turns, follow group instructions and gain the quiet social confidence that comes from working alongside peers.
Beginner and Junior: school-aged children
Our Beginner programme introduces school-aged swimmers to stroke mechanics and breath control, structured around clear milestones. The Junior programme builds on those foundations, refining technique across all four strokes and developing the endurance that supports stronger, more confident swimming. Progress is assessed and communicated to parents through the term.
Squad: advanced and competitive
SwimWorld's Squad programme is for advanced swimmers training for stroke efficiency, speed and stamina, including those preparing for competitive swimming. Squad sessions are structured training rather than standard lessons, suited to swimmers who have progressed through the junior pathway.
Adult lessons: all levels, including complete beginners
SwimWorld teaches adults of every ability, from those who have never swum independently to experienced swimmers refining their technique. Adult lessons are taught by instructors experienced in working with adult learners across all levels.
Learning to swim as an adult is far more common than most people assume, and there is no judgment in our adult classes. For adults in the Glen Waverley and Monash area looking for a calm, structured, small-group environment to learn or improve, SwimWorld's adult programme runs year-round alongside our children's classes.
Qualified, Consistent Instructors
Why Families in the Monash Area Choose SwimWorld
Every SwimWorld instructor holds a minimum of the Austswim Certificate and Swim Australia certifications, the nationally recognised qualifications for swimming and water safety instruction in Australia. Many hold additional qualifications and have taught at SwimWorld for years.
Just as important as qualifications is consistency. We work to keep the same instructor with the same class group across a term. The relationship between a young child and a trusted instructor is itself a factor in how quickly that child progresses. A child who knows their teacher attempts harder things sooner and recovers from setbacks faster. Fifty years of teaching has only reinforced how much this matters.
Families comparing swimming schools in the Glen Waverley and Waverley area tend to weigh up a handful of things: experience, class size, water temperature, scheduling and the quality of teaching. Here is how SwimWorld stands on each, stated plainly.
Experience: over fifty years teaching in the Monash community, with tens of thousands of swimmers taught across multiple generations. Among the most established swimming schools in Melbourne's eastern suburbs.
Class size: a maximum of six students per class for younger and developing swimmers, among the smallest in the area.
Water: a heated indoor pool maintained at 32 degrees every day of the year, warmed by solar panels with gas backup so winter never changes the experience.
Scheduling: open seven days a week, from the morning to afternoons or evenings.
Range: a complete pathway from baby classes at four months through to adult lessons and competitive squad, all under one roof.
